Poipu Beach Area Restaurants

Our favorite upscale dinner restaurants in the Poipu Beach area are Plantation Gardens and The Beach House. For informal dining, particularly breakfast and dinner, we suggest CasaBlanca at the Kiahuna Tennis Club, the Poipu Beach Broiler, Dali Deli in Koloa Town and the Kalaheo Coffee Company in Kalaheo; all close to Hale Luana.

At most of the better restaurants, it's a good idea to make advance reservations for evening meals.

The Plantation Gardens

The Plantation Gardens

The Plantation Gardens (808-742-2216) is located in a spectacular tropical setting adjacent to the Kiahuna Plantation. The historic plantation manor house dates back to the 1930's. Formerly known as the Moir residence, the house is richly refurbished with Brazilian cherry wood floors, koa trim, rattan seating and a large, open air veranda. Chef Brenda Silva-Morando has added many new Hawaii regional items to the menu such as the popular Ahi Martini, Seafood Lau Lau, Wok Seared Scallops, Macadamia Lamb Chops, Sugarcane Pork, and the Miso Shiitake Risotto. Private rooms are available for family gatherings and larger groups and the adjacent bar.

Casa Blanca

Casa Blanca offers informal dining at the Kiahuna Tennis Club.

A convenient spot for breakfast & lunch.

The Beach House

The Beach House

The Beach House (742-1424) is located on the ocean along the road to Spouting Horn. The food is excellent and views at sunset are spectacular. This restaurant is owned and operated by the management and staff of A Pacific Cafe. Don't leave town without having ordered the Macadmia Nut Encrusted Mahi Mahi. Dinner from 5:30 PM. Reservations for sure.

The Poipu Beach Broiler

The Poipu Beach Broiler

The Poipu Beach Broiler (808-742-6433) is located at 1941 Poipu Road between the Kiahuna Plantation and the Hyatt Hotel. This picturesque restaurant is a favorite for both locals and tourists. Steaks, Seafood and Bar. Also, a good spot to watch televised sporting events.

Kalaheo Coffee Company & Cafe

Kalaheo Coffee Company & Cafe

Kalaheo Coffee Company & Cafe (332-5858) - Located in Kalaheo - about seven miles (15-20 minutes minutes) from the Poipu Beach area. In addition to a wide choice of brewed coffees, great breakfasts and luncheon sandwiches. Take Highway 530 from Koloa Town; west (left) on Highway 50. It's worth the drive.

Keoki's Paradise

Keoki's Paradise

Opened in 1986, Keoki's Paradise (742-7534) is styled to resemble a dockside boathouse. Cascading waterfalls, meandering streams, lush foliage and thatched roofs over the bar create an outdoor Polynesian atmosphere.Seafood is the main attraction featuring the day's fresh fish prepared a half-dozen ways. In addition, the contemporary menu offers prime rib, prime steaks, chicken and ribs. The fun and lively Bamboo Bar features tropical cocktails, a seafood and cafe bar, sumptuous appetizers, and live Hawaiian entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cafe Cara

Cafe Cara (742-8824) is a local favorite restaurant specializing in traditional Italian cuisine. This small, informal restaurant is located across from the Post Office on the main street of Koloa Town. Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 PM. Reservations suggested. Reasonable Prices. (During the day Cafe Cara becomes Deli Deli, serving breakfast and lunch. This is a good place to come for a sandwich or salad during the middle of the day.)

Roy's Poipu Bar and Grill

Roy's Poipu Bar and Grill (742-5000) is conveniently located across the street from the Kiahuna Plantation in the Shopping Village. Roy Yamaguchi’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine blends fresh local ingredients with European sauces and bold Asian spices—with a focus on fresh seafood—to create a distinctive range of appetizers, entrées, and fish dishes. You’ll always find four specialty fishes fresh from Hawaii on the menu, as well as a selection of exclusively matched wines and tempting desserts. Our experience at Roy's had been very favorable, excellent dishes and well presented. Roy's is on the expensive side.

A Pacific Cafe

A Pacific Cafe (822-0013) has been given the highest accolades of all the restaurants on Kauai. Here you'll find light-as-air, deep-fried tiger-eye sushi with wasabi beurre blanc; wok-charred mahimahi with garlic-sesame crust and lime-ginger-butter sauce; scallop ravioli in lime-ginger sauce; and firecracker salmon--the Josselin signatures. The menu, which changes by the day, offers a hearty selection from the wood-burning grill, such as opah with olives and feta, fire-roasted ono with Thai coconut green curry sauce, and spicy pork tenderloin with banana barbecue sauce. Chef Jean-Marie Josselin has a marvelous way with clams, rice, fish, sauces, meats, and fresh Kauai products. Located in Kauai Village Shopping Center, Kuhio Highway, Kapaa. Allow 30 minutes of driving time from Poipu Beach area. Daily 5:30-9:30 PM. Expensive but worth it.

Brennecke's Beach Broiler

Brennecke's Beach Broiler (742-7588) has a lively bar atmosphere, views of the ocean and sunset and is a five minute drive from Hale Luana. Casual attire.

The Kalaheo Steak House

The Kalaheo Steak House (332-9780) is located about 15-20 minutes from Kiahuna at 4444 Papalina Road in Kalaheo. The food is good, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is more "local". A nice alternative.

Hyatt Hotel Restaurants

The Hyatt Hotel (742-1234) has several fine restaurants. THE TIDEPOOLS is an elegant open-air Polynesian experience. DONDERO'S is an exceptional Italian experience. The SEAVIEW TERRACE is a lovely setting for drinks.

Gaylord's Restaurant at Kilohana

Gaylord's Restaurant at Kilohana (245-9593) is located one mile west of Lihue on Route 50, at Kilohana. Dine in the beautiful courtyard of this historic plantation home. Open for lunch and dinner. We would avoid Gaylord's during peak holiday seasons due to long waits and trying to serve too many dinners. Our guests report that the luau at Gaylords is wonderful, not too "cheesy".

Heavenly Creations

Heavenly Creations (828-1700) caters imaginative meals and, better yet, they will deliver as many meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) as you wish. If you call ahead, they can have dinner and breakfast waiting for your arrival.
